Our Executive Chef Mualla Bulut

Chef Mualla Bulut is the soul of The Baklava House. Born into a distinguished culinary family from Maraş, Turkey—a city famed for its rich gastronomic heritage—she brings centuries-old dessert traditions to life with unmatched elegance. Her artistry blends ancestral recipes with modern refinement, making every bite a timeless experience.

At the heart of The Baklava House stands Chef Mualla Bulut—a master of dessert artistry and a storyteller through flavor.

Originally from Maraş, Turkey, Chef Bulut carries forward the legacy of one of Anatolia’s richest culinary cities. Positioned at the historic crossroads between Mesopotamia, Northern Syria, and Central Anatolia, Maraş has long been a melting pot of civilizations, flavors, and food traditions. It is here that Mualla's family, for generations, has preserved and perfected recipes passed down from the days of the Ottoman Empire.

Chef Bulut was born into a lineage of gastronomes—culinary artisans who have nurtured their craft for nearly three centuries. Her family’s dessert recipes are considered sacred formulas, with one golden rule: only the finest ingredients can unlock the true flavor. From hand-ground nuts to traditionally prepared syrups, every element must meet exacting standards.

Mualla is not only a guardian of heritage, but also a visionary of the future. For the past 14 years, she has called Los Angeles home, where she has made her mark on the city’s culinary scene through her acclaimed ventures, including Muma Kitchen. Her creations blend time-honored tradition with a refined, modern aesthetic—bringing Turkish desserts into the global spotlight.

At The Baklava House, Chef Bulut leads with precision, elegance, and soul. Her baklava is not just a dessert—it’s a piece of history, a work of art, and a moment to savor.

If you ask her what defines great dessert, she’ll simply smile and say:
“When the first bite takes you somewhere you’ve never been—and yet, somehow, it feels like home.”
